This blog post might not be solely focused on autoimmune conditions, but I know that weight-related issues are something many of us with autoimmune diseases face daily.
Whether it's the struggle to gain weight or lose it, or managing the challenges of exercise and food intolerances, these things can really complicate our journey.
For some of us, certain foods or exercises that might work well for others could end up triggering a flare-up. And when you're dealing with autoimmune symptoms, that’s the last thing you want! It’s important to remember that focusing on appearance or counting every single calorie isn’t always the healthiest or most important goal, especially when it can put your body under unnecessary stress.
In fact, extreme measures like excessive exercise or overly restrictive, low-calorie diets can sometimes backfire. These can lead to burnout or, worse, trigger your autoimmune symptoms. Our bodies thrive on balance and nourishment—not deprivation or exhaustion.
I sat down with Dr. Petra and ITV’s Dr. Zoe to discuss how to approach healthy weight management in a way that respects our unique bodies, especially for those of us managing autoimmune conditions. I invite you to watch the video where we share practical, kind advice to help you take care of yourself without compromising your well-being.
Take care, and remember—health isn’t just a number on the scale.
